HackNCode 4.0 was the 4th annual 2-day hackathon organized by IET MPSTME (Mukesh Patel School of Technology Management & Engineering) On Campus, based in Mumbai, India. This was the first time the event was held virtually, and about 140 participants attended the event, with a total of 20 projects submitted. HackNCode 4.0 was the second hackathon in India Earth Hacks has supported.

The hackathon focused on climate change education and challenged participants to come up with effective ways to educate family members on the topic. Projects ranged from websites that allowed users to stay up to date with the latest environmental news to gamified apps that helped users of all age groups engage with climate issues in an approachable way.

The event also included “CodeChef hours” — hour long sub-challenges that helped reinforce and refine each team’s ideas in regards to the challenge track. Software Engineer and educator, Robin Khurana, was the guest speaker for HackNCode 4.0 and was able to share his expertise and insights on exciting ways to create great hacks.

Apoorva Singh, who worked on a project called “Climate Warriors” — a fun, interactive website for climate change education — was the winner of the hackathon. You can check it out, along with projects from other hackathons, here.

One of the organizers, Deep Shah, shared that “Effectively handling the problems and inconsistencies in climate will play a pivotal role in our lives in the coming decades.” Although IET hasn’t conducted in-person events since the start of the pandemic, Deep says “the ecstatic feeling of meeting and working with so many people to come up with a solution for the environment online still feels the same; and I am very proud to have been a part of it”.
